The Boston Changeling game is a heavily plot and character background focused game. As such, there are a few requirements and restrictions on character creation. These are general guidelines, and may change with time (I will try to keep this list up to date), but if you are contemplating making a character with something from this list, you should discuss it with me before you proceed.
Backgrounds:
Holdings:
Please discuss this with the ST staff. Boston's freeholds are only recently
being restored and this is a very limited background and usually comes about
through in-game play.
Title:
It is recommended, due to the small number of nobles in the region, that you
be prepared to justify any level of title you may take. Again this often comes
about through in-game play, so if you'd like to start wth title please discuss
it with ST staff.
Companion:
All manner of companions are allowed to be taken (subject to 6.0 approval
requirements), however, in order to enter play at a game, a physical representation
of the companion is required. This can be satisfied by a stuffed animal or
toy, or worn item card in the case of very small companions. For human sized
(or larger) companions a player is required to play the companion. If the
player is unable to meet these requirements, either the companion has not
accompanied the character to the game, or is wandering around somewhere nearby,
but is not immediately available. Special Note: Exceptions can be made for
extremely hard to represent companions. If you're concerned, contact the ST
staff and we will help you find some way to represent it.
Merits & Flaws:
Bad Moon:
This flaw may not be taken by any character. Because our Domain's games are
always during daylight hours, the flaw has no effect. (Note: This is a different
flaw than cyclical court tied to moon cycles. Cyclical court is allowed.)
Character Backgrounds:
All characters must have a written background submitted prior to character approval. This background, and the character stats must be submitted and approved by the ST prior to the first game the character will be played at.
The character background can be as short or long as the player wishes, but must contain the following information:
- Age, description, etc.
- Mortal seeming, identity, occupation, residence, etc.
- Description of any contacts, allies, retainers, influences, dreamers, mentors,
or other NPCs that appear on the character sheet as a background or merit/flaw.
- Description of items, including weapons, chimera, treasures or other unusual
equipment, and how they were acquired by the character
- Merits & flaws and negative traits: how they were acquired, and how
they affect the character
- Fealty chain, if the character has a title (and if applicable - yes we realize
many new nobles are unlanded)
- Description of any other item which will require approval, including how
it was acquired by the character.
